Complete release notes

Before you upgrade

  • The installers no longer include LUT files. Download the official LUT packages in Settings > LUTs. A project keeps its LUT choice. If a LUT file is missing, the photo renders without that LUT until the file is available again.
  • Crop and rotation work in a new way. Old photos with a rotated crop can look different after the upgrade.
  • The Gamma color wheel and its master slider now move in the correct direction, and the Gain master slider now has an effect. Old photos with these adjustments can look different after the upgrade.

New

  • LUT browser: a LUTs page in the editor tool rail shows your LUT library as a grid or a list. Filter by category, source, film brand, print film, and favorites. Search accepts small typing errors. Click a LUT to apply it to the selected Color Grade, and click it again to remove it. A new strength setting (0-100%) controls each LUT.
  • LUT library: LUTs in nested folders are found, and you can import your own LUTs. Settings > LUTs lets you choose, open, refresh, and move the library folder, and download, update, or repair each official LUT package. Packages are signature-checked before they are installed.
  • Diffusion filter: a black diffusion filter effect gives bright lights a soft glow and keeps midtone detail sharp. It is on the new Post Processing page, together with Clarity, Sharpen, Film Grain, and Halation. It works on CUDA, OpenCL, and Metal.
  • Compare: compare Before and After, or two Versions, from the viewport or the Versions panel. Show two full images or use a movable divider, left/right or top/bottom, and swap the sides. Both sides use the current demosaic, highlight, and lens settings.
  • Library sort and group: each Album Inspector field has sort ascending, sort descending, and Group actions. Groups show as sections that you can collapse and expand. A new Import Time section filters photos by import day.
  • Welcome screen: the most recent project shows as a preview with a cover of its first photos, the photo count, the count of edited photos, and the capture date range. Click another recent project to preview it. A project that you only preview is not saved.
  • Rating: a rating from the context menu now applies to all selected photos. The ratings save in the background, and the task bar shows the progress.

Editor and library

  • Copy Adjustments can now copy RAW Decode, White Balance, Lens Correction, and Crop and Rotate. Paste to many photos runs in the background and shows its progress. Paste to the open photo shows the new Version in the Versions panel at once. The Paste action moved from History to the Versions panel.
  • Crop: the crop frame is now the output image, so rotation after a crop rotates the cropped image. The crop frame stays inside the photo, so a rotated crop has no empty corners. Each crop change is one History step, and the aspect setting is saved with the photo.
  • When the RAW Decode, Display Transform, or Post Processing panel is open, a LUT from the browser applies to the last selected Color Grade. The browser shows its name.
  • The adjustment panel order is now RAW Decode, Geometry, Tone, Color, LUT, Display Transform, Post Processing. Mask and Compare show only while they are in use.

Performance

  • RAW import is much faster. In a test with 639 RAW photos, import took 1.1 seconds instead of 31.6 seconds, and peak memory fell from 485 MB to 149 MB.
  • Projects open faster. In a test with 641 photos, open took about 0.12 seconds instead of about 0.7 seconds. The loading indicator shows while a packed project unpacks.
  • The first thumbnails after project open appear sooner. Each project keeps its own thumbnails in the disk cache, so other projects no longer remove them.
  • Thumbnails and export use their own GPU resources. Thumbnails no longer slow down the editor preview, and an export during a slider drag uses the saved value.

Fixed

  • A click on Crop could remove all edit history of a photo. A crop could be missing from History, so Undo could not return to the full frame.
  • After Paste, the LUT panel shows the pasted values. A LUT change applies at once after you change photos in the filmstrip. Cancel in the Paste dialog no longer clears the copied adjustments.
  • The application sometimes did not close, or stopped with an error after it closed.
  • Windows: temporary project files no longer stay in the temp folder after exit.
  • The application no longer writes preview performance log files by default.
