Complete release notes

Before you upgrade

  • The diffusion filter has a new highlight curve. Old photos with this filter can look different after the upgrade: the glow around near-white areas is softer and has no hard edge.

New

  • JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and OpenEXR images: import and edit them like RAW photos. Alcedo Studio reads each file's embedded color profile and converts the image into its ACES workflow. OpenEXR and PQ or HLG images are marked as HDR. The file content, not the file extension, decides how a file is read.
  • Raster input color: for these images, the RAW panel shows the input color and an input profile menu instead of white balance and RAW decode settings.
  • Folder import file types: a File types row selects RAW, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, or OpenEXR, with a file count for each. Import takes only the selected types, and Alcedo Studio remembers the selection. Files of other types are counted and shown as excluded.
  • LUT input and output encodings: choose the color encoding that a LUT expects and the one it produces, from scene encodings (camera log curves and ACES) or display encodings (sRGB, BT.1886, PQ, HLG, and more). A display output is brought back into the scene with the ACES 2.0 inverse output transform. One change is one history step.
  • Remember for this LUT: the LUT library can store an encoding pair for one LUT and apply it each time you use that LUT. Official package LUTs default to ACEScc. Adjustment copy and paste includes the LUT encodings.
  • Library edit time: sort the library by the last edit time, or group it by edit day with one group for unedited photos. When a project opens, the library goes to the photo you edited last.

Improved

  • Background tasks: the bottom task bar is replaced by a small status lamp in the top toolbar. It opens to show a running task or an error, and quick tasks no longer flash a bar. Click the lamp to open or close it.
  • LUT browser: one row of Category, Source, Brand, and Print filters replaces the filter sidebar, and each filter lists only values with matching LUTs. Print has a "No print" value. User LUTs are under "User", and a hint shows the folder for your own LUT files. The browser scrolls to the applied LUT, and the footer names it.
  • Settings > LUTs can remove an installed official LUT package after a confirmation. Photos that use its LUTs lose that look until it is installed again.
  • Warnings and errors use a red badge with white text, which is easier to read.
  • The Settings category list scrolls, so every category, including About, can be reached.

Fixed

  • Library: collapsing or expanding a group no longer jumps to the top, and the grouped view keeps its position after a visit to the editor. Sorting by the group field now also orders the groups.
  • OpenCL: a crash that could happen when white balance changed while a LUT was applied is fixed. Image uploads to the GPU are also faster.
  • Long labels in adjustment drop-down menus are no longer cut off.
