Before you upgrade
- Alcedo Studio 0.3.0 cannot open projects from 0.2.9 or earlier. It does not convert them. To use an old project, keep 0.2.9 installed, or export your images from 0.2.9 first. Your original photo files do not change.
- Import accepts camera RAW files only. The import refuses JPEG, TIFF, PNG, HEIC, and other non-RAW files.
New
- Nodes panel: use more than one Color Grade in a node graph between Develop and the display transform. You can add, rename, delete, and connect Color Grades. Undo, redo, and Versions keep the graph.
- Radial and Gradient masks: draw a mask on the photo and adjust it with handles. Each Color Grade has its own masks, with invert, opacity, and feather controls.
- Mask Groups panel: each Color Grade shows as a group with mask thumbnails. You can add and delete groups, and drag a group to change the grade order. You can lock a grade against deletion. The first grade is locked by default.
- When you select a node, the adjustment panels edit that node. A header above the panels shows the node name, focal length, aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
- Grade White Balance in the Look panel sets the temperature and tint of one Color Grade or mask. Camera white balance is now in the RAW Decode panel.
- Contrast now changes lightness around middle gray. It keeps hue and does not move middle gray. New images start at Contrast +15.
- A Keyboard page in Settings lets you change each shortcut. It shows conflicts, and you can restore the default of each shortcut. Changes apply immediately.
- DNG files with embedded color profiles now use the HueSatMap, LookTable, and related profile data. Their color is now correct.
- The album inspector has an Activity view. It shows the number of photos for each capture date. Click a day to filter the album to that date.
Editor and library
- Copy Adjustments: select a source Version, then select the items for each Color Grade and for the display transform. Paste makes a new Version. Paste does not copy RAW decode, lens, or crop and rotation settings. The Merge action in History is removed.
- Lens correction is now in the RAW Decode panel. A search field finds lenses by brand and model. Auto-recognition selects the lens from the photo metadata.
- Search now finds capture dates (June 7, 2026-06-07, 6月7日), file types (raw, dng, jpg), and capture settings (iso800, f/2.8, 35mm). Search terms combine with AND. A number alone no longer finds ISO values. Type iso800 instead.
- Clarity, Sharpen, Film Grain, and Halation now apply one time to the full image, after the display transform. The preview and the full-size result look the same.
- The editor tool rail shows a label below each icon. Settings has a Language / Theme page and a Default Behavior page. The About page has links to the documentation and to GitHub.
- On small screens, long labels go onto a second line. They are not cut short.
- Crop and mask handles show cursors for rotate, move, and resize.
- All new functions are available in Simplified Chinese.
Performance
- A new GPU render engine runs on CUDA and OpenCL on Windows and on Metal on macOS. A change renders only the steps that it affects. Thumbnails use the same engine, so they agree with the editor.
- The preview follows slider changes at the refresh rate of the display.
- Search runs in the background and does not stop the interface. In a library of 20,000 photos, a search takes approximately 20 ms.
- Large library imports no longer use more and more memory. In a test with 20,000 photos, memory use fell from 16.3 GB to 150 MB, and the time fell from approximately 5 minutes to 39 seconds.
Fixed
- Imports of more than 1,024 files no longer lose images. Unsaved ratings are no longer lost.
- macOS: Neural Engine demosaic no longer makes a checkerboard pattern.
- macOS: highlight recovery no longer makes artifacts on some image sizes.
- macOS: lens correction now finds its lens data in the installed application.
- The installed application now identifies Nikon lenses by their lens ID. This gives the correct lens name and lens correction.
- Sony A7C II ARW files and their linear DNG files have correct colors and levels. Canon EOS R6 Mark III CR3 files no longer clip.
- Windows: File Explorer, the Start menu, and desktop shortcuts show the new application icon.
- In the Versions panel, a click on + makes a new Version immediately.
- The album inspector scrolls with the mouse wheel.
